Many people worry about joining a new sport's club - so here's an insight into a typical night....
*Everyone trains by arrangement that way I can ensure you are training at the right level, with the right people for you, all new members are warmly welomed and supported on their new adventure!
* We start with a warm drink - this allows me to check all is okay - no new medical problems, you are feeling alright to train, at their ease and the coffee/tea raises the body temperature to aid the warm -up.
*When everyone is ready we head out to start training;
Training - (everything is done in rounds of AROUND 3 minutes - the same length as a music track
so we train to music - all you have to do is survive those 3 miins and it's a rest and a new target! Easy)
Warm Up; this consists of movement drills, skipping, speedball and shadow boxing.
Bag work - there are five heavy bags and we work various drills on these, boxing and kicking etc focuses.
Pad work - focus pads, usually boxing drills, punching, slipping, weaving, movement work.
Kick shields - we learn how to perform well executed kicks on large foam/air padded shields.
Thai pads - as you progress and build your skills, you progress to using your whole body to strike, punching, kicking, kness, elbows and defending yourself from counter strikes.
Fitness - we utilise medicine balls, hand weights, fitness bands, agility ladders, cones etc to compliment the joys of sit ups, press ups, jumping jacks, squats - all set within original game/fun formats!
Stretching - since this sport uses the whole body we stretch everything to ensure injury prevention
Sparring drills - this is what most people are most fearful of; but the rule is simple you DON'T spar until you want to and you are ready to. Safety and enjoyment are watch words so NO ONE HAS TO SPAR if they don't wish to - but those who are usually most fearful of this end up the ones who love it!!!
Cool down - light movement, co-ordiantion drills and a check from each individual for feedback - how did it go? how did you feel it went? enjoy? learnt something? broke a sweat!
JUICE TIME - best bit of every session is a glass of cold fruit cocktail to reward you hour and a half's efforts!
Everyone is catered for
It doesn't matter who you are
What your ailments or restrictions are
The only thing that stops you from giving this a go
Is not making the call to arrange your first class......
If you don't like - it's an hour and a half out of your life.....if you like - book your next session :)
